Supervision: Professional Development for Therapists
Throughout many points in a therapist’s career, clinical supervision and clinical consultation are useful. Palm Cove Psychology Group provides clinical supervision for master’s and doctoral level psychologists in training, which meets the requirements for state licensure or certification. Dr. Hanley has a passion for supporting the growth of other therapists into the professional they wish to become.
For therapists in training, supervision is designed to help them improve in understanding what their clients are experiencing, how to choose and implement interventions, and how to handle the wide array of inner experiences that early therapists encounter. Dr. Hanley is a trained cognitive-behavioral psychologist; therefore, her supervisory approach utilizes processes that parallel cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Dr. Hanley believes that the supervisory alliance is critical to effective work in supervision. When a supervisee does not feel safe or supported, he/she is unable to obtain the necessary skills or incorporate constructive feedback into her/his therapeutic repertoire. In addition, Dr. Hanley believes that adherence to a CBT supervision model also reinforces the model and the supervisee is able to have an experience akin to self-practice.
